GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia Tech’s Carrie Eberle has been selected as the 2018-19 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and leads the All-ACC Academic Softball Team announced on Thursday.
The junior pitcher from Charlotte, North Carolina, was named the 2019 ACC Pitcher of the Year in a vote of the league’s head coaches. She was key in Virginia Tech’s Coastal Division title and helped her team secure the top seed in the 2019 ACC Softball Championship.
Eberle graduated with a degree in biology, accumulating a GPA of 3.87. She is a three-time All-ACC selection, a 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District III honoree and has been named NFCA All-Region twice.
2019 ACC Champion Florida State and Louisville placed five student-athletes each on the team, while Duke placed four. Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech each had three student-athletes on the team, and NC State, Pitt, Syracuse and Virginia each placed one.
Of the 30 student-athletes on the All-ACC Academic Team, 20 received All-ACC honors this past season, and 12 were named All-Region or received All-America honors.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
