Seven ACC Players Selected on First Day of MLB Draft

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Seven Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes were selected on the first day of the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, tied for the most from any conference.
 
Georgia Tech C Joey Bart (2nd pick, San Francisco Giants), Clemson OF Seth Beer (28th, Houston Astros), Virginia LHP Daniel Lynch (34th, Kansas City Royals), Virginia OF Jake McCarthy (39th, Arizona Diamondbacks), and Wake Forest RHP Griffin Roberts (43rd, St. Louis Cardinals) all heard their names called in the first round, first compensation round, and competitive balance round A on Monday night.
 
Duke RF Griffin Conine (52nd, Toronto Blue Jays) and Louisville CF Josh Stowers (54th, Seattle Mariners) were selected in the second round to complete the first day of the 2018 draft.
 
A streak with at least one ACC player selected in the first round was extended to 27 straight years.
 
The 2018 MLB Draft continues on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with rounds three through 10.
