Three Noles, One Eagle Land ACC XC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference today recognized the following student-athletes as ACC Cross Country Performers of the Week for October 16.
 
ACC Men’s Performer of the Week – Jacob Holmes, Florida State, R-Fr., Auckland, New Zealand
Holmes finished 11th overall, ninth among collegiate competitors, in a field of 230 runners at the FSU Invitational. Holmes recorded a personal-best time of 25:10.3 over the 8,000-meter Apalachee Regional Park course as the Seminoles’ top finisher. It was just the fourth career race and a 48-second improvement over his previous 8k-best for the Auckland, New Zealand native, who missed the 2018 season due to injury.
               
ACC Women’s Performer of the Week – Erin Phelps, Florida State, So., Tallahassee, Fla.
Earning her second ACC weekly honor of the season, Phelps turned in a strong performance at the FSU Invitational, placing fifth overall to lead the Seminoles to a second-place team finish at the Apalachee Regional Park course. Coming off her victory at the UAH Charger Open, the Tallahassee, Fla. native recorded her second consecutive personal-best in the 5,000-meter race, finishing in 17:49.2 against a field of 228 runners. It was a 64-second improvement over Phelps’ previous best on the course where she raced eight times in high school.
 
ACC Men’s Freshman of the Week – Jack Carter, Boston College, Fr., Sudbury, Mass.
Carter ran an 8K course PR of 25:55 at the New England Championships to finish 41st in a field that featured 25 teams and 170 runners at Boston’s Franklin Park. His finish helped Boston College to a fifth-place team showing in the meet, an improvement of five spots over the Eagles’ 10th-place finish in 2018.
 
ACC Women’s Freshman of the Week – Yasmine Abbes, Florida State, Fr., Nijmegen, Netherlands
The two-time ACC Women’s Freshman of the Week Abbes continued to make strides in her first year, placing 10th overall – ninth among collegians - in a 5,000-meter cross country personal-best of 18:02.3 at the FSU Invitational. The Nijmegen, Netherlands native trimmed nine seconds off her previous best in just the third 5k race of her career, helping the Noles to a second-place finish against a field of 228 runners and 24 teams, including 13 NCAA Division I schools.
