UNC's Alex Comsia Named ACC Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina senior defender Alex Comsia has been named the 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and leads the sport’s All-ACC Academic team, released Thursday by the league office.

Comsia, a business administration major, is joined on the team by 2018 ACC Offensive Player of the Year Omir Fernandez of Wake Forest, and 2018 ACC Freshman of the Year Issa Rayyan of Duke.  Comsia, Clemson’s Patrick Bunk-Anderson and Wake Forest’s Brad Dunwell all made the team for the fourth consecutive year.

All 12 ACC men’s soccer programs had at least one player honored. Duke led all schools with seven selections, followed by Syracuse (5), Notre Dame (4), Wake Forest (4), Clemson (3), Pitt (3), Virginia (3), Louisville (2), North Carolina (2), NC State (2) and Virginia Tech (2) and Boston College (1).

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
