GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – A league record in the men’s 10,000 meters and five marks that rank No. 1 or 2 nationally highlight the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week’s accomplishments in Week Five:
Men’s Co-Track Performer of the Week
Adriaan Wildschutt, Jr., Florida State
The NCAA Men’s Cross Country Championship runner-up made his outdoor track debut for Seminoles just as memorable by winning the 10,000 meters at the Virginia Challenge in an ACC-record time of 28:25.11 that also established school, meet and facility records. Wildschutt bettered the previous ACC record time of 28:25.36 set by Syracuse’s Iliass Aouani in 2019 and was nearly three seconds faster than the previous FSU mark of 28:28.04.
Men’s Co-Track Performer of the Week
Jo'Vaughn Martin, Sr., Florida State
Competing at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville, Florida, Martin posted a blazing time of 9.94 in the 100-meter dash that stands as the No. 1 time in the world this year and sits atop the NCAA leaderboard (the next closest time is 10.00). The Houston native’s time was a personal best and ranks No. 3 all-time among FSU sprinters.
Women’s Co-Track Performer of the Week
Hannah Steelman, Jr., NC State
After posting a school record in the 3000m steeplechase last week and earning her first ACC Outdoor Track weekly honor, Steelman continued her record-breaking season with a time of 15:30.87 in the 5,000 meters at the Virginia Challenge. Her time broke not only the school record but set meet and facility records as well. She finished at the top of the field, and her 5,000 meters time is the fastest in the NCAA and ACC this season. Steelman placed nearly 11 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Women’s Co-Track Performer of the Week
Maudie Skyring, Sr., Florida State
Skyring moved atop the national leaderboard of the women’s 1,500 meters with a winning time of 4:11.43 at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational. Skyring led a field of 36 runners while posting a personal best time that now stands as the fifth-best in school history. Skyring moved past 2016 Olympian Colleen Quigley on FSU’s all-time list with last weekend’s performance.
Men’s Co-Field Performer of the Week
Felix Wolter, Gr., Pitt
Wolter was sensational is his first career decathlon at Pitt during the Virginia Challenge, smashing the school record by more than 1,000 points while posting the second-best score in the NCAA and eighth-best in the world this year. Wolter finished with 7,950 total points as he claimed victory in eight of 10 events, posting personal bests in eight. The Germany native also posted three top-10 Pitt event marks during his weekend of competition as he has positioned himself for a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships after earning All-American honors during the indoor season with a fourth-place finish in the heptathlon.
Men’s Co-Field Performer of the Week
Claudio Romero, Fr., Virginia
A three-time ACC weekly honoree already this season, Romero set the UVA school record in the discus twice while winning the event during the Virginia Challenge. On his third attempt he unleashed a throw of 63.86m (209-6) only to better that on his sixth and final attempt when he registered a distance of 64.39m (211-3). That was six feet better than his previous best throw this season. Romero’s mark stands as the No. 2 mark in the nation, tops for the ACC and tops for all freshmen. He has won three of the four discus events he has entered this season and been the top collegiate finisher in all four competitions.
Women’s Field Performer of the Week
Ruta Lasmane, Fr., Florida State
After being recognized as the ACC Women’s Field Performer of the Week three times during the Indoor season, Lasmane made her outdoor debut in the triple jump with a winning mark of 13.81 meters (45-3.75) at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational that currently ranks No. 4 nationally. In the FSU record book, Lasmane’s mark trails only those set by former ACC great and Olympian Kim Williams in 2011.
