Miami's Morales, FSU's Hubbart Claim ACC Baseball Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Miami sophomore third baseman Yohandy Morales has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Florida State sophomore lefthander Bryce Hubbart earned ACC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.

ACC baseball weekly honors are voted on by a select 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.

Morales finished 10-for-15 (.667) with three home runs and nine RBI as Miami swept three games versus visiting North Dakota State. All three of Morales' homers gave the Hurricanes the lead, including two game-winning blasts.

With his 10th and 11th round-trippers on Sunday, Morales became the first Hurricane since Zack Collins in 2015 and 2016 to smack double-digit home runs in back-to-back seasons. With his four-hit performance in the series opener, he became the first Hurricane since Georgie Iskendarian in 2015 with back-to-back four-hit games.

Hubbart (7-1) allowed just one hit and hit a batter in 7.0 innings, with 11 strikeouts in Sunday’s 8-1 series-clinching win at Boston College. Both of Boston College’s runners against Hubbart came in the second inning, on a leadoff double and a hit batter. Hubbart countered by forcing a flyout and a strikeout to keep BC off the board.

After the hit batter, Hubbart retired the final 17 Eagles he faced. The Windermere, Florida, native’s 11 strikeouts on Sunday were his most ever in a road game.
