Williams, Keels Earn ACC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Wake Forest graduate forward Alondes Williams has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week for the second straight week, and Duke guard Trevor Keels was picked as the Freshman of the Week in the ACC’s weekly men’s basketball honors for Dec. 20.

ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.

Williams is the first Wake Forest player to earn back-to-back ACC Player of the Week honors since Jeff Teague on Jan. 12 and 19, 2009. He led Wake Forest to victories over VMI and Charlotte last week, while averaging 35 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Williams set a career high with 36 points against VMI on Tuesday. He shot 11-of-20 from the field and 12-of-13 from the free throw line while adding five rebounds and three assists against the Keydets.

Williams then put up 34 points, eight rebounds and seven assists Friday on a neutral floor against Charlotte, becoming the first Wake Forest player to log back-to-back 30-point games since Teague had 30 and 34 against BYU and North Carolina in January 2009. With the performance against Charlotte, he also was the first Demon Deacon player over the past 25 seasons to record at least 30 points, five rebounds and five assists in a game.

Keels averaged 14.7 points per game over three Duke victories last week to match Wendell Moore Jr. for the team lead. A native of Clinton, Maryland, Keels shot 52.2% (16-of-29) for the week, hit five 3-pointers and was 7-of-9 at the free-throw line. Keels started the week by scoring 14 points with three rebounds and three assists against South Carolina State. He followed that with 11 points, three boards and five assists against Appalachian State. Keels concluded the week with a team-leading 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting with three steals versus Elon.
