CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina used a fourth-quarter scoring spurt to rally and top Boston College, 14-12, on Sunday afternoon in the title game of the 2025 ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. In a matchup of the nation’s top two ranked teams, the No. 1-ranked and top-seeded Tar Heels (18-0) won their eighth ACC Championship in program history and first since 2022.
Redshirt freshman Chloe Humphrey was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after scoring nine goals and assisting on six more in three games as she totaled a team-high 15 points. She was joined on the All-Tournament Team by her sister Ashley as well as Betty Nelson, Eliza Osburn and Ellie Traggio. Shea Baker, Rachel Clark and Shea Dolce earned spots on the All-Tournament Team for No. 2 Boston College (17-2), whose lone losses this year are to UNC by a combined three goals.
Chloe Humphrey scored a hat trick and dished out a pair of assists to lead UNC on Sunday, while Osburn also recorded a hat trick. Molly Driscoll and Mia Mascone each scored three goals for Boston College. Both goalkeepers made key saves, with BC’s Shea Dolce totaling 14 saves and finishing with a tournament-record 38 saves over three games. Nelson finished with eight saves for UNC.
The game was nip-and-tuck throughout, with neither team leading by more than two goals at any point. The game was tied 7-7 at the half and after Osburn scored just eight seconds into the second half, BC held the Tar Heels to just one goal in over 21 minutes of game time, building an 11-9 lead on Rachel Clark’s 91st goal of the season with 10:35 remaining.
The Tar Heels won eight of 10 draws in the fourth quarter to help seize back control, scoring four straight goals and five of the game’s final six goals. UNC pulled within a goal, 11-10, on Kate Levy’s goal with 9:26 remaining and tied the game on an Addison Pattillo score with 7:16 left. Marissa White put the Tar Heels back ahead on a goal with 5:26 left and Levy scored again at the 3:46 mark for a 13-11 edge.
Driscoll scored off a free position with 1:13 remaining to cut the lead in half, but the Tar Heels won the ensuing draw control and ran out the clock, with Chloe Humphrey capping the scoring with a goal with four seconds remaining.
The 29-team field for the NCAA Tournament will be announced on Sunday, May 4, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPNU. The championship gets underway with 13 games at host sites on Friday, May 9.
