CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Five Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes were named ACC Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week for the fifth week of the 2025 outdoor track & field season. Louisville’s Geoffrey Kirwa earned two weekly honors, while California, Duke, Stanford and Virginia each had one honoree.
Kirwa was named the ACC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week and the ACC Men’s Outfield Track & Field Freshman of the Week after an incredible showing at the Bryan Clay Invitational. In his collegiate debut for the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Kirwa clocked a world-leading time of 8:13.89 to win the event. His time shattered the ACC and Louisville records for the event and ranks as the second-fastest collegiate time ever recorded. Kirwa’s time is the fastest in the world this year by more than four seconds with Virginia’s Nate Mountain sitting in second place.
Stanford’s Sophia Kennedy finished sixth in the 5,000-meter run at the Bryan Clay Invitational, which featured a field full of the top distance runners, both collegiate and professional. Her time of 15:11.12 was the fifth-fastest time among collegiate runners and ranks her fifth throughout the country this season. Kennedy’s time ranks as the No. 10 mark in collegiate history. Her time also ranks as the second-fastest 5,000-meter race in Stanford history.
Duke’s Max Forte posted the second-best decathlon mark in Blue Devils’ history on his way to earning ACC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors. The senior totaled 7,813 points on his way to the top of the ACC performance list for 2025 and a No. 2 national ranking. At the Mt. SAC Relays, he notched four top-five finishes in the multis event, highlighted by a runner-up showing in the 100-meter dash.
After winning the high jump at the Virginia Challenge, Virginia’s Celia Rifaterra was named the ACC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. The junior posted a personal best and meet record of 1.84 meters (6-0.5) as she claimed the event title. Her mark ranks first in the ACC and eighth in the NCAA this season.
California’s Valentina Savva was named the ACC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week for the second time after a strong showing in the hammer throw. The Larnaca, Cyprus, native leads all NCAA freshmen in the hammer throw, while leading all ACC competitors, with a mark of 69.20 meters (227-0) at the Mt. SAC Relays. The mark also broke her own Cypriot U-23 record and California freshman record. Savva ranks fourth among all NCAA Division I competitors this season.
