Florida State’s Mastromanno Tabbed a Ray Guy Award Finalist

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – For the second consecutive season, Florida State punter Alex Mastromanno has been named a finalist for the 2024 Ray Guy Award, which is presented annually by the Augusta Sports Council to honor the nation’s top punter.

Mastromanno leads the country with an impressive average of 49.1 yards per punt.  He ranks first in the ACC and second nationally with an average of 45.25 net yards per punt.

The veteran punter’s season punting average of 49.1 is currently over one yard better than the ACC record of 48.0, set in 2020.

The redshirt senior has punted 50 times this season for 2,453 yards. A total of 28 of those punts have traveled over 50 yards, 17 have been downed inside the 20-yard line, and there has been just one touchback. His season-long 65-yard punt is the longest of the three finalists.

With fellow specialist Ryan Fitzgerald named a Lou Groza Award finalist, Florida State is the only school in the country with finalists for both awards and only the second ACC school with a finalist for both specialist awards in the same season.

A national voting body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, national media and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote to determine the winner of the Ray Guy Award. The winner will be announced live on Thursday, December 12, during The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
