GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Three student-athletes who rank No. 1 nationally in their respective events and another who set a league record have been recognized as Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Performers of the Week for Jan. 25.
ACC MEN’S TRACK PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Yared Nuguse, Notre Dame, Gr., Louisville, Ky.
Nuguse currently holds the nation’s No. 2 spot in the mile after posting an ACC-record time of 3:54.46 last weekend as the Irish hosted their annual Notre Dame Invitational against DePaul, Lewis, Loyola and Indiana Tech. Nuguse, who led the way as the Irish took the first six places in the field, bettered the previous ACC mark of 3:54.89 set by NC State’s Ryan Hill in 2012.

Barbora Malíková, Virginia Tech, Fr., Oldrišov, Czech Republic
In her debut competition as a collegiate athlete, Malíková ran 1:28.02 to win the women’s 600m at the Hokie Invitational. The 20-year-old Olympian now holds the top time in the NCAA this season, the third fastest in the world this year, and the second-best time in Virginia Tech’s record book.

Jake Spotswood, Virginia Tech, Gr., Fairhope, Ala.
In his first heptathlon with the Hokies, Spotswood turned in a two-day performance of 5,731 points with personal bests in the 60m, shot put, and 1,000m at the Hokie Invitational. Spotswood’s total ranks as No. 1 in the NCAA and the ACC so far this season and is third in the world. The 5,731 points is also a new lifetime best for Spotswood and breaks Virginia Tech’s heptathlon record by 381 points.

Erin Marsh, Duke, Gr., Buford, Ga.
Marsh captured the pentathlon at the Hokie Invitational for the second year in a row, totaling 4,172 points to rank first overall in the NCAA so far this season. Marsh’s balanced effort included a first-place finish in the high jump as well as second-place efforts in the 60-meter hurdles and the shot put.
